BARC's Spring Fling
Benzie Area Radio Control (BARC) is pleased to formally announce the AMA sanctioned 6th Annual Spring Thing Fun Fly, from 10 am to 3pm on Saturday, May 18th. It will be held at the BARC's home field at the Thompsonville Airport on Lindy Road, a bit less than one mile east of Hwy M115, near the Crystal Mountain Resort entrance.
Hoping for pleasant weather, they anticipate an even greater number of spectators then the 700 or so that they entertained last year. BARCs hopes you will attend this year and perhaps encourage your family and fellow members at your location to come as well. Working in partnership with the Airport management, we will again be using their 2900 foot black top runway, which should attract pilots of a dozen or so jet aircraft, always a crowd pleaser. Of course, aircraft of all types and sizes are welcome to enjoy multiple pilots’ stations along the runway, and at the exclusive separate helicopter site. Food and drink will be available, with proceeds defraying general airport operations.
There has been quite a bit of positive response to the suggestion to run a T28 Scramble during the mid-day lull. If you have an electric T28 (any size) please bring it and enjoy the fun of no-limit-planes-in-the-air for 15 minutes. It ought to be a fun event for everyone.
If you will be attending a BARC event for the first time, you will be asked to fill out a registration form. If you have flown there before, There are not any required papers other than your current AMA card. A short pilots’ meeting will take place at 9:30 am.

B.A.R.C.'s Air Show 2012
The Benzie Area Radio Control club (BARC) will host its 15th Annual Air Show, at the Thompsonville Airport on Lindy Road, commencing at 10 am. The Pilot's meeting will be convened at 9:30 am. Officially, the event is advertised to end at 3pm, but the airfield will continue to be available to you if you wish to fly after 3. You are also invited to come early and fly on Friday afternoon, while they set up the show.
Although not yet a firm promise, BARC's hopes to be honored by the attendance of Mr. Tim Jesky, AMA's new Vice President for District VII. If you are present at the Air Show you will get a chance to chat with Tim. He is looking forward to being there because they told him there will be a good representation from AMA members from several Michigan chapters, especially from the state's mid to northern Lower Peninsula. Of course he is a busy executive. Conflicts for his attention can occur, but he is hoping to be there.
BARC's Spring Thing fun fly conducted last May was very successful, with 52 pilots registered. They are hopeful to see 70+ pilots on August 25th and hope to see you make a return visit. Admission is free to all. There is plenty of parking space.
As many of you know, BARC is lucky to have the Thompsonville Airport as their home field, and the 2900 foot blacktop runway to use during the show. Expect a wide variety of aircraft, both fueled and electric. Each past event has experienced an increasing number of jet aircraft; they certainly help build an audience. BARC anticipates that with good weather attendance should exceed 1000 once again.
Actually, the Air Show is two shows, with a separate facilities and air space for fixed wing and helicopters; both venues running concurrently.
BARC's new express check-in procedure is proving to be a big hit with repeating participants. If you have attended a prior BARC event, They already have your personal information digitally logged. A simple presentation of your current AMA card gets you registered quickly so that you are on your way to set up and flight without delay.
This year BARCs began to pre-print and distribute pilot identification cards to all registered guests. There was very positive feedback on these cards. Some had the logo for the pilot's home club printed on it. BARCs doesn't have a digital file for each Michigan chapter's logo. If your club has one, please email it to them ASAP and they will try to have it on your ID card when you check in.
Looking forward to a great Air Show on August 25th, with you as one of our guests.
